I recently rediscovered the video of Steve Jobs's Stanford University graduation speech, thanks to the amazing new book by Reed Hastings, the founder of Netflix, "No Rules Rules". Hastings lists a few of the people, Jobs included, who have emphasized the need to connect the dots in order to create something innovative.
This represents an epiphany for me, because it describes precisely what I've been doing for many years now.
I realize now that I value good storytelling more than just about any character trait.
